💧 The Need is Urgent: Kenya’s Water Crisis

Access to clean drinking water remains a critical challenge in Kenya, where over 28 million people—more than half the population—lack access to safely managed water services (UNICEF, 2024). In urban slums and rural areas alike, communities are forced to rely on unsafe water sources, leading to widespread waterborne diseases. According to the Ministry of Health, 1 in 3 hospital visits in Kenya are linked to preventable water-related illnesses, such as cholera and typhoid. With climate change worsening water scarcity and contamination, the need for sustainable, immediate solutions has never been more urgent.

🙌 We're in Kenya!

We’re thrilled to share that the Solar Water Project has officially launched in Kenya! Our very first project was deployed at Embulbul Mosque and School in Ngong, Kajiado County. This marks a major milestone in our mission to deliver clean drinking water to underserved communities across Africa. 

Located in a densely populated informal settlement, the Embulbul site serves over 500 school children and a wider community that depends on a single, contaminated borewell. The water source was found to be bacterially unsafe for consumption, making this deployment both urgent and impactful. Thanks to your support, the OASIS Nano Box now provides up to 10,000 liters of clean, safe drinking water daily, helping transform health outcomes and restore dignity to a community in need.

🤝 How Does Solar Water Project Serve Local Communities On Your Behalf?

Dignity and community development is core to our mission. We serve on behalf of our donors: we conduct pre and post installation surveys, conduct health camps and report all our findings back to donors using our unique online reporting platform. A recent study in Lasbela, Pakistan showed a solar-powered OASIS box reduced diarrhea and cholera by over 75% and 88% in 383 adults, post-deployment, enhancing water quality and health. Solar Water Project is a dedicated water charity and since 2014, we have installed water projects in 300+ villages and refugee camps and currently serve an estimated 300,000 people daily across seven countries: Pakistan, Yemen, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, South Sudan, Jordan and Turkey. We have served an estimated 1 billion cups of clean water. With 2025, Solar Water Project has been officially registered in Kenya, South Africa and Dubai, UAE expanding our footprint globally.
