Disaster Response for Pakistan Floods 2025:

We're currently on the frontlines in Buner, Pakistan, responding to one of the deadliest monsoon flood seasons in recent history. In mid-August alone, flash floods claimed more than 150 lives in Buner District — part of a nationwide disaster that has killed over 700 people and displaced tens of thousands.

Thanks to your support, Bondh E Shams has deployed solar-powered Disaster Relief Units capable of purifying thousands of liters of flood-contaminated water every day. These units are bringing life-saving clean water to families stranded without electricity, roads, or access to conventional aid.

Buner, KPK, Pakistan

This mission is about more than emergency relief — it’s also about building long-term climate resilience. In Pakistan, climate change is no longer a distant threat — it's a daily reality. From catastrophic floods to severe droughts, the country is on the frontlines of a global crisis.

In the Wake of Every Flood, There’s a Water Crisis

When floods hit, the destruction doesn’t end with the water. It lingers — in the form of disease, displacement, and contaminated water.

  • Only 20% of Pakistan’s population has access to safe drinking water
  • In flood-hit areas, 40% of children show signs of stunted growth
  • Waterborne diseases like cholera, malaria, and dengue spread rapidly

Solar Water Project's Flood Response in 2022

In August 2022, devastating floods submerged one-third of Pakistan, cutting off access to clean water, shelter, and electricity for millions. In response, the Solar Water Project launched a total of 26 flood-relief deployments across the country. This included the rapid deployment of three solar-powered OASIS Box™ units to Umerkot, Sindh — one of the hardest-hit regions. These portable systems began producing safe drinking water within hours, directly from contaminated floodwater. Later, the units were relocated to boreholes, transforming the emergency response into a long-term, zero-emission clean water solution for the community.

🙌 What Your Donation Does:

The Solar Water Project (Bondh-E-Shams) delivers solar-powered water filtration units to remote and underserved communities. Developed with colleagues from Stanford University, our signature innovation—the OASIS Box—is a portable, solar-operated system designed to meet diverse community needs.

The OASIS Box Community model integrates a submersible pump, high-efficiency bacteria filters, and real-time data tracking. It can be deployed in just 7 minutes and delivers up to 10,000 liters of 99.99% clean drinking water per day, sustainably, for over 20 years.

🔍 How Does Solar Water Project Improve Donor Reporting?

Every donor is provided free access to our proprietary donor reporting portal with a unique login for donations to OASIS Community Box allowing data transparency to donors. Every OASIS Community Box is fitted with an internet-enabled live data monitoring system that collects and reports daily impact direct to you.

🤝 How Does Solar Water Project Serve Local Communities On Your Behalf?

Dignity and community development is core to our mission. We serve on behalf of our donors: we conduct pre and post installation surveys, conduct health camps and report all our findings back to donors using our unique online reporting platform. A recent study in Lasbela, Pakistan showed a solar-powered OASIS box reduced diarrhea and cholera by over 75% and 88% in 383 adults, post-deployment, enhancing water quality and health. Please reach out to us for a detailed report.
