In the aftermath of the 2023 earthquake, Hatay, just one hour from the Syrian border, became home to 260 Syrian refugee families — over 1,300 people.

They are no longer in tents but in metal trailer containers with no insulation. In summer, these containers become unbearably hot; in winter, bitterly cold.

Many families have no fans or AC units. Hygiene is also a challenge — they lack basic items like soap, laundry detergent, dishwashing liquid, and shampoo.

Most NGOs have left Türkiye to work inside Syria. These families remain behind, with no way home. Their houses in northern Syria were destroyed, and rebuilding costs $20,000 each.
