Mount Semeru erupted again on November 19, 2025 at 4:00 PM (WIB), spewing an ash column approximately 2,000 meters above the summit. The eruption was accompanied by pyroclastic flows and increasing lava avalanches throughout the evening, with runout distances reaching up to 14 km, prompting authorities to raise the alert level to Level IV (Awas—Danger). The mountain was briefly obscured by fog, moderate rain fell over the summit area, and significant volcanic activity was recorded by monitoring instruments. Residents living on the slopes of Semeru are now gripped with fear, while the Lumajang–Malang route via Gladak Perak has been completely closed.

The situation worsened as pyroclastic flows continued to surge toward the Curah Koboan watershed, affecting settlements and forcing thousands of residents to evacuate. Monitoring teams reported lahar flood tremors, thick plumes of ash, and drastic changes in volcanic activity within minutes. Meanwhile, 178 hikers remained on the Ranukumbolo trail—reported safe and instructed to descend the following day. On Thursday morning, Semeru was still covered in fog with no clear visual activity, indicating that conditions remain unstable.

Amid this emergency, two injured victims have been identified: Normawati (42) and Hariyono (49), both suffering second-degree burns. The LMI Rescue team has been on the ground since the beginning, conducting evacuations, assessing urgent needs, and opening access for emergency aid. They urgently need support to strengthen logistics: protective equipment, ready-to-eat meals, blankets, tents, medicine, and medical services for the injured and vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly.

Dear kind supporters, in times of disaster, we have the chance to be part of the first help our brothers and sisters in Lumajang receive. Let’s extend our best support through LMI Rescue so that emergency logistics, medical aid, and evacuation efforts can quickly reach the affected areas. Every contribution—big or small—means a great deal to those struggling through this night of uncertainty.
