بِسْمِ ٱللَّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

If faith is Yemeni, as the Rasool (s.a.w) said, then what does it say about our faith if we have no concern for the people of Yemen? The Prophet (s.a.w.) mentioned that one of the most beloved acts to Allah (s.w.t) is that you feed a beloved brother or sister who is hungry a loaf of bread. 

The Situation is Dire

With 16.2 million Yemenis facing food insecurity, the current level of hunger in Yemen is unprecedented. Almost 100,000 children under the age of five are at risk of dying in Yemen as the country slides back into a hunger crisis.

​Yemen has one of the highest rates of chronic malnutrition. According to the UN, it is estimated that 47% of children in the country are stunted, which means that their growth and development is impaired, and 15% are wasting, meaning that their muscle and fat tissues are progressively deteriorating. 

The head of the U.N. Food agency visited Yemen last month. "It's the worst place on earth. And it's entirely man-made," he said.

Building Sustainable Solutions: Bread Bakeries

Human Concern International is building bakeries in Yemen that provide 4000 fresh loaves of bread on a daily basis to Yemeni families living in poverty. Your donation will ensure that families at least have the most basic form of sustenance daily: bread. 

​Your donation will also create employment opportunities for the staff that operate and manage the bakery daily. In order for a project to be sustainable and impactful in the community it serves, the community members themselves must be part of the implementation and operation. Human Concern International hires local talent in Yemen for construction, renovation, and daily operation.

By donating to this program, 1,200 Yemenis will receive fresh bread on a daily basis to ensure that families and their children have the most basic sustenance at the very least: bread. Human Concern International has already built 3 bakeries across Yemen that each produce 8000 loaves of bread daily. Our fight against Yemen's widespread hunger and malnutrition continues this Ramadan as we strive to open more. 

Daily bread ensures that men and women could carry out their daily work with the strength they need. Daily bread means children can go to school without feeling the pangs of hunger. Daily bread means that families can restore their dignity. And in Ramadan, daily bread means that families will have something to break their fast on.

Let's Do it Again!

We've already opened a total of three bakeries across Yemen. We plan to continue opening bakeries to further combat the hunger and malnutrition that has plagued Yemeni families and their children for years. 

​By opening bakeries, we engage local businesses, suppliers, contractors, and even employ staff to manage and operate the various locations. Providing livelihood to the people of Yemen is equally important. Click in the picture below to watch the video.​

The children that eat from this source of daily bread benefit in many ways. They have a means of eating breakfast before they go to school, they have a means of eating a meal before studying in the afternoons, and they're no longer going to sleep on an empty stomach. The happiness that this blessing has brought them is heartwarming.
